6/29/2023 0 Comments Rani by Jaishree MisraJanu’s story from her teenage to adulthood, through her marriage and motherhood, is a very captivating one. I realized that there are talented English authors in India, different from the cheesy romance books we’re presented with more often.Īncient Promises introduced me to a strong female character, one who can be considered as the representation of a typical Indian married woman. My opinion about Indian English literature changed for the good after reading Ancient Promises. I actually bought it because it was prescribed in our third-year syllabus. I was really glad that I came across this book. The book, Ancient Promises, makes us think about the difference it would make if women had enough courage and strength to defy conventions and live for themselves instead of conforming to social norms. Janaki, the heroine is a representative of the typical Indian woman whose life gets altered and faulted through marriage and family life. It has interesting plot twists that keep the readers gripped. A story of love, heartbreaks, and marriage Indian author Jaishree Misra’s beautiful narration is nothing but a perfect romantic and coming-of-age novel.

I don't think Robert Cormier wrote this book to frighten children and believe in mafias that exist in schools. It portrays society and authority/power through a school community. Lastly, I would also like to emphasize that the story itself is a microcosm. My classmates agree that the book is extremely relatable to our daily lives, and all those crazy teenage thoughts are something everyone has to live through. Although the book consists of mild sexual content, and swear words are sometimes used in dialogues, I truly believe this is a great work of literature. The book doesn't convey a wrong moral, it simply emphasizes the sacrifice you need to give to stand with a right moral, in a situation the protagonist is in. I believe it is necessary to allow teenagers to understand the negative aspects of life. However, it's a great book with tons of symbolism, metaphors, and a really well thought-out plot. The book does outline the harsh truths of society and discusses themes like Psychological Manipulation, Conformity, and Violence. We recently studied this book in our English and Literature class. 6/29/2023 0 Comments Tropic of cancer book reviewPromotional posts, comments & flairs, media-only posts, personalized recommendation requests incl. 6/29/2023 0 Comments Death Eaters by Kelly Milner HallsWith the exception of an implausible decision near the end inserted for tension (why wait hours to check the surveillance footage after a valuable horse has been lost?), the story wraps up satisfyingly, with a bit of a twist regarding the Butcher. Themes of initiative and understanding are presented skillfully if fairly predictably. Halls writes in a brisk, competent style, and Annie’s present-tense narration is straightforward. When Peggy’s valuable thoroughbred goes missing, Annie and Jack begin to suspect foul play. Jack tells Annie that Peggy has problems of her own, but Annie is disbelieving until she sees it for herself. Meanwhile, she tries to ignore the jibes of the obnoxious Peggy, a girl about Annie’s age who boards an expensive horse at the stable. Annie names the mare Poco and under Jack’s tutelage, learns to train her with kindness and trust. At the auction she attends with Jack, the stable manager, Jack bids on an unbroken 4-year-old mare to keep it from being acquired by the Butcher, a woman reputed to resell horses for dog food. Yuri Jones, with 1,000 others, is about to find out. The 'substellar point', with the star forever overhead, is a blasted desert, and the 'antistellar point' on the far side is under an ice cap in perpetual darkness. Huddling close to the warmth, orbiting in weeks, it keeps one face to its parent star at all times. The Long Earth (Terry Pratchett & Stephen Baxter) ADVERTISEMENT. But Proxima IV is unlike Earth in many ways. The 27th century: Proxima Centauri, an undistinguished red dwarf star, is the nearest star to our sun - and (in this fiction), the nearest to host a world, Proxima IV, habitable by humans. And this mind cradles memories of a long-gone age when a more compact universe was full of light. Yet there is life here, feeding off the energies of the stellar remnants, and there is mind, a tremendous Galaxy-spanning intelligence each of whose thoughts lasts a hundred thousand years. The very far future: The Galaxy is a drifting wreck of black holes, neutron stars, chill white dwarfs. Clarke’s literary heir, and Proxima certainly reinforces this accolade in spades. An awe-inspiring Planetary Romance from Terry Pratchett's co-author on the Long Earth Books Stephen Baxter has been heralded, with some merit, as Arthur C. |
